"There is always a way up" with Matt Howitt (Episode 39)
Why I Quit
Today, we are joined by Matt Howitt, who went to four different colleges, but never graduated. From an early age, Matt had an affinity for building and always had several gigs going on at once. Eventually, Matt got a job at the genius bar at the Apple Store. At this same time, he taught himself how to build websites in Wordpress and began getting clients. He would work on the sites during his breaks at the Apple Store.
One of Matt’s managers saw his initiative and recommended him for an opportunity to work on the iPhone 8 release in Cupertino. This six month experience led Matt to diving deeper into development by receiving an internship at a software development agency. This turned into a full time position where he gained great experience, but was unfortunately eventually laid off.
Matt found a new role as a lead developer and loved the position. However, Matt could not shake the feeling of wanting to start his own business. He started building apps and websites on the side with his business partner, Alex Wasner. He was working (80) hour weeks between the two positions. Eventually, he had to chose whether to quit or keep his full-time job.
Matt ended up quitting his full-time job to go all in on twothirtysix labs with Alex. Fast forward to today and they have scaled to (9) full-time employees as they continue to help brands launch websites, digital collectibles and other web3 projects.
